First of all please read the following
Caution
There is a chance that the method of applying lead stated below could not be appropriate for specific people or clubs.
The following explanation is being published for reference only.
One of the ways you can easily tune your clubs is to attach weight. By just adding a few grams of lead, you will find that the balance and feeling of the club, as well as the required muscle and strength, changes tremendously. Based on what you’re aiming for, we need to change where we apply the weight.
Before applying extra weight please take these precautions
- Placing weight onto the face of the club is against the rules so please be careful.
- When applying weight, make sure that the area in which you are applying the weight is completely clean with no signs of dirt or sand.
- If applying to the rough area on the blackface of a putter, or iron head please ensure that you place the lead on lightly without much force.
- Based on the characteristics of weight object you’re attaching, it is possible to stretch it a little bit with some strong pressure, however, it is not possible to stretch adhesive tape, if placing on a large bend, it can become easy to peel so please take care.
- When attaching to a putters sole etc., if you cut and press in the part shown in the illustration below then it should become difficult for it to peel off.
When applying to a driver or iron club
When you want to prevent slicing
- Place it on the head’s heel side
- Place it on the back face near the heal
→The distance to center of gravity will become shorter meaning control needs to be higher.
When you want to prevent hooks
- Place it on the head’s toe area
- Place it on the back face’s toe area
→The distance to center of gravity becomes longer meaning the heads trajectory becomes more stable.
When you want to hit the ball higher
- Place the weight on the soul
- Place it on the center of the back face
→The center of the gravity’s depth increases, meaning it is easier to hit the ball higher.
Placing weight onto a putter
- Place it on the opposite side of the face.
→Stroking becomes more stable, and the balls rolling becomes more stable. - Place it on the head’s toe and heel
→The center of gravity increases meaning it’s easier to roll. - Place it on the soul’s toe and heel
→The head will become stable and go straight forward, it also becomes easier to pull it back straight.
When applying it to the shaft
Recommended for people who want to easily tune their clubs
Applying lead to your club is slowly becoming the norm, based on how you apply the lead the entire balance of your club can change. Placing lead on the shaft of your club is not for changing the balance but to change the weight and is the best thing for bringing more characteristics out of a club. Please try this simple tune up.
